Located on the Nipomo Mesa since its incorporation in July, 1979, Pacific Sun Growers, Inc. is a wholesale grower of indoor tropical plants. This business is not subject to the seasonal variations found in many other types of agriculture, and plants are grown and sold throughout the entire year. As a result, the company employs approximately 20 full-time staff people year round. Many of these people have been with the company for nearly its entire history, creating a family-like atmosphere within the company.

Pacific Sun Growers' greenhouse production area is approximately 100,000 square feet, located on ten acres. Two acres are also planted in baby blue eucalyptus that is cut and wholesaled to the florist trade. The nursery propagates most of its own plant material but also imports some cuttings from South America and Hawaii. The growing time varies depending upon species. For instance, a Boston fern takes six months to produce while a six-foot tall Ficus Benjamina (weeping fig) may take over a year to grow from a cutting. The tropical plants that are grown by Pacific Sun Growers will ultimately end up in restaurants, banks, office buildings, and private homes.

The main customer base of Pacific Sun Growers is other wholesale nurseries, which in turn sell primarily to the interior landscape market. A smaller portion of sales is to local retail chain stores and retail nurseries. The bulk of all sales is within California, although out-of-state shipping has been increasing year over year. Pacific Sun Growers' customer base is very stable, and in many cases, customers have been doing business with Pacific Sun since it began.
